JPR Embattled

Hanging in the balance tonight- the future of the Holly Theatre... after an internal investigation of S.O.U. and Jefferson Public Radio.
    People are concerned in downtown Medford about the ramifications of this audit, but city officials are confident both the Holly Theatre and the old 'Fat City' building will be completed by JPR.
    Larson's Furnishings owner Bruce Larson is concerned... saying this about the audit which calls the Holly Theatre and 'Fat City' building renovations bad investments.
   "It looks like a waste of money and time."
   The longtime Medford businessman donated the old 'Fat City' building to Jefferson Public Radio late last year, and he doesn't understand the timing of the State University Chancellor's audit.
    "Somebody changes their mind after the wheels are moving... that just doesn't make much sense to me."
    In an audit ordered by the University Chancellors Office they concluded SOU and the JPR foundation shouldn't be taking on downtown medford buildings and projects... like the Holly Theatre and Larson's old building.
   "I'm very concerned there was a lot of work that went in to this... changing things, and all of a sudden it's gone the other direction."
    While they didn't want to speak on camera, Medford city officials tell us they fully expect JPR to finish this building.
    After all, the City Council's already talking about wearing 1930's costumes to next month's lighting ceremony.    
    "I have big ideas but I can't write up that agreement."
    While the Holly Theatre is still in scaffolding it's future becomes even more murky tonight.
