At 120 pounds - it's hard to miss Patton.
When Janis cook took home the pick of the litter - she did so with promise that she'd enter him in competitions…but then…he just took off. she says "and then he started winning and winning!" As he worked his way through the show dog circuit…the Plano pup received a prestigious invitation - to compete at the highest level - the Westminster dog show in New York City. "if you get invited, you go!"
You might say that Patton has to take some time off work to make the show.
"when i talk to some of the judges after, they see me place the pack on him and walk him out, they're very surprised and pleased that he has another job."
Outside of the ring - Janis and Patton are pretty much inseparable "i have multiple sclerosis and my balance is awful. He kept me from falling."
While for many of his peers - agility training is meant to help stay sure-footed in the spotlight - for Patton - it's a balance -
"we've trained Patton to push directly on that button with his front paw."
It's not unheard of for a service dog to compete but it is rare. The competition will be stiff…and even though the two-year-old isn't favored to win his breed…when Patton gets home, he'll still be top dog.
