A federal grant will restore service to the Siskiyou Rail Line between Ashland and Weed.

That line has been closed since 2008 because it needed repairs.

Senators Wyden, Merkley and Representative Defazio announced Tuesday that a $7.9 million federal grant will aid in reopening the line, as well as provide a boost to the local economy.

The total cost of the project is around $9.5 million.

Most of the remaining funds will come from the Central Oregon and Pacific Railroad, which owns the rail line.
