ALL NEW: Former Public Defender Charged With Attempted Murder

A former Siskiyou County Public Defender is behind bars.

Yreka Police were called out to a report of a stabbing on the 300 block of Evergreen Lane just after 1 am, Thursday.

Police say the victim was severely bleeding from his back.

He was transported to Fairchild Medical Center and as of Friday morning is in serious condition.

45 year-old Patience Van Zandt now sits at the Siskiyou County jail and is charged with attempted murder, domestic violence and assault with a deadly weapon.

The investigation will continue Friday.
