Josephine County, Oregon

A non-profit organization, 'Secure Our Safety' is pushing county officials to get something on the ballot to counter the crippled criminal justice system.

Commissioner, Simon Hare says, "there's a lot of unanswered questions in the proposal so far. but through the process we're gonna have an opportunity to get to those." Hare says this may not be the best way to fix the overall issues, but its the one that's in front of them now.

The proposed 'tax district' would raise taxes and fund the jail, animal control, district attorney's office, juvenile justice and the sheriff's civil process. It wouldn't include sheriff patrols which is why Cave Junction authorities didn't pass a motion to adopt the code.
