Council Concerns Over Casino

The proposed casino in south Medford is heating things up in the Medford City Council chambers.

During Thursday's council meeting, the majority of members expressed concerns about the Coquille Indian Tribe's plans.

NBC 5 is told one council member, Karen Blair, fully opposed
the casino. Her fellow members say more research needs to be done.

"Let's get the facts before we take a position. And if we take a position without facts, it kind of demeans our creditability that we are irrationally and constructively looking at what ever this is to the community," said Bob Strosser, Medford City Council Member.

Rather than outright opposing the plans for a casino, city council members are instead writing a letter to federal officials. They're concerned the city won't have any say over what happens on tribal land.
