No Guns With University Contract

Oregon university leaders voted tonight to not allow guns on state university campuses.

A school shooting at an Ohio State high school claimed the lives of three students and now a 17 year old is charged with their murders. It's something that's being taken seriously as the Oregon University System pushes for a gun ban on campus and for a sensitive community following several recent incidents closer to home. At Southern Oregon University, those we spoke with say it's about creating a safe haven for learning. While the Oregon University System pushes, the argument over the Second Amendment-The right to bear arms, has kept the bill from going through the legislature. Now university officials are doing it their own way. A bill which was under consideration in the Oregon State Senate which would ban all licensed concealed handguns on school campuses in Oregon. It was considered this week and once again, did not pass.

Once you've run-off the very people that would assist in stopping a tragic event (Concealed-Carriers) and made yourself all the more a "Victim-Saturation-Zone" (AKA "Gun Free Zone"), should something bad happen you can then have a wonderful "lie-in" vigil where you all lay on the ground and declare yourselves helpless victims and say you want the rest of the nation to be the same way.

    Goodgrief.

On a constitutional/law note, I'll say this: People have a right to Keep and Bear Arms. They should not have to ask the state for a permit in order to do so. And being a right, the state cannot place requirements for a citizen to pass prior exercising that right. As for carrying on campus, that would depend on who owns the property: If it private, they can make their own rules. If it is public or takes public funding, then it may have to acknowledge certain rights.

Yep, law abiding citizens over 21 that have shown themselves to be trust worthy with a gun off campus, can't be trusted with a gun on campus.
These are the people teaching our kids about logic? About our civil rights? about personal responsibility?
Liberal/Progressive beliefs are about everything accept these things.
