A standoff is underway after the intense manhunt for fugitive ex-Los Angeles police officer Christopher Dorner took a dangerous turn Tuesday afternoon in the California mountains.
After nearly a week long search it is believed Dorner is barricaded inside a cabin in the Big Bear mountains, three hours outside of Los Angeles.
According to authorities Dorner abandoned a stolen vehicle, fled into the forest, and took shelter inside the cabin.
Police fired smoke canisters and continue to exchange gunfire.
Two police officers were wounded and airlifted to the hospital.
The former LAPD officer is wanted for the shooting deaths of three people, a Riverside police officer, the daughter of a retired LAPD captain and her fiance.
In a manifesto attributed to him, Dorner allegedly threatens to kill more police officers and their families in retaliation for being fired from the force in 2009.
