Medford is getting a new baseball team...set to start play at Harry and David field next summer.
The Southern Oregon River Dawgs will be gone, but this new team, playing at a higher level of competition, will take their place.
This new team will play in the west coast league...which features mainly division one college players and provides the kind of structured play, the River Dawgs never could reach independently.

As President of the Riverdawgs and the Emcee at todays media event I wonder if your reporter attended the same event that I did. No where during any of my comments or those of the other speakers did anyone say the Riverdawgs are "gone". You have done a great hatchet job on what the Riverdawgs have done and brought to the baseball community here in Medford. I have personally met with the WCL President for the past 4 years to help bring the league here. The Riverdawgs are not gone but are moving to the WCL. Period!! As is common in such a move and in this case a new owner instead of the non profit organization the Riverdawgs operated under, new branding is good and helps create community support and interaction by way of renaming the team. But after all is said and done, this new team will be the old Riverdawgs. We still have over a month left on our schedule and are still actively seeking game sponsors and sponsors for our club. It's going to be harder now with the idea that your news program has us "gone". We have received nothing from Channel 5 for years and now you shovel dirt in our faces. I said in my remarks that we the Riverdawgs have now felt after all our years of building this program that we feel we have reached the top of college summer baseball and have arrived. Your idiot who must have slept through the event reports we are gone!!! Great job and thanks for being there today. After 11 years of building from the ground up a college baseball program to the point of bringing one of the best college leagues in the nation here you report we are gone and couldn't provide the kind of structured play the WCL provides?? What do you think got the WCL here? I feel terrible for those that have put in so much hard work with this club to have you stab us in the back so badly.
Steve Jensen - President. SO Riverdawgs.
