Albany high school teacher charged with attempted sex abuse

0708 James MyrickAlbany, Ore. – An Albany high school teacher has been arrested after allegedly attempting to coerce a 17-year-old female student to have sexual contact with him.

Albany Police said 28-year-old James Walter Myrick was taken into custody Friday morning without incident.

According to police, the six week investigation into Myrick began after students reported concerns that he was having an inappropriate relationship with a student at West Albany High School.

Myrick was lodged at the Linn County Jail on charges of luring a minor, tampering with a witness, coercion, official misconduct, and attempted sex abuse.
