California man arrested for getting dog high on meth

0520 meth dogTustin, Calif. (KCAL) — Bubba the terrier mix was found in a Tustin, California motel high on heroin and methamphetamine.

Bubba’s owner, 40-year-old Joshua West, was in the motel room with his dog when police found used needles and drugs. They arrested West for an outstanding warrant, a parole violation, possession of drug paraphernalia, heroin and meth.

Tustin Police Department Lieutenant Robert Wright said, “This strikes me as pretty horrible. This is the first time we’ve ever heard of someone reporting that an animal has been under the influence.”

Animal control officers called to the scene immediately noticed Bubba was lethargic. Tests revealed he had meth and heroin in his system. It’s unclear if he ingested the drugs or breathed in second-hand smoke.

Bubba is now detoxing at an Orange County animal clinic. Once he recovers, officials say he will be put up for adoption.
