The Coyote Trails School of Nature and the Rogue Valley Council of Governments each received a check of over $2,000 on Monday from the Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians.

Both organizations are involved in local restoration projects along Bear Creek. Representatives of the tribe say that’s why they were awarded the funding.

Michael Rondeau, CEO of the Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe said, “We feel that a high tide floats all ships, so if the community does well, we do well, and vice versa, and so being community minded is simply the way to go.”

The Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation awards grants to organizations in seven counties in Southwestern Oregon. This year, $87,000 is going to non-profits in Jackson County alone.
