Medford, Ore., — It’s an ancient Chinese pain reliever that’s gaining a lot of popularity thanks to the Olympics…and USA swimmer Michael Phelps.

“It’s a way to help with pain relief, it helps promotes blood circulation, and it’s really great for tight muscles and knots.” said Chinese herbalist, Kristin Piaticelli

And recently thanks to the Olympics, it’s gaining a lot of attention.

Specifically, swimmer Michael Phelps has been seen with the remnants of the treatment – reddish-purple circles.

“I think probably the treatment with Michael Phelps is for pain relief and increased circulation to keep his shoulder joints happy healthy and to prevent any type of injury.” said Piaticelli

But it isn’t just beneficial for professional athletes, it’s a common practice in Medford too.

“It felt just all the tension just getting released, my muscles just melting into my body and the tension was gone after that, it felt really good.” said one cup therapist recipient, Gary Clement

Sessions can range anywhere from about thirty to eighty dollars and can take a just few minutes or a couple of hours.

It’s really just all about your preference.
