Driver charged in Ashland fatal crash

0222 Ashland Fatal mugUpdate (04/07 3:30 p.m.) — The Jackson County District Attorney’s Office says Brandon Morlock pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide and DUII in court on Thursday.

Ashland, Ore. – An early morning vehicle accident in Ashland leaves one person dead, and one behind bars.

According to the Ashland Police Department, at around 1:15 Monday morning, officers responded to a single-vehicle crash at the intersection of Siskiyou Boulevard and Walker Avenue. An investigation indicated the vehicle had been speeding and subsequently crashed into a utility pole, causing it to lose further control.

Officers say one passenger was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and other passenger received non-serious injuries.

The Jackson County Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction team and a drug recognition expert were called in to assist. After an investigation, police arrested 21-year-old Brandon Morlock of Bainbridge Island, Washington on charges of manslaughter 1, manslaughter 2, and driving under the influence of a controlled substance.

Officers say the passenger who died, 18-year-old Ryan Bowker from Port Orchard, Washington, was riding in the back of the vehicle at the time.
