Gov. Kate Brown details opposition to planned Medford Casino

Salem, Ore. — NBC5 News has learned more about why Governor Kate Brown will not be supporting a casino planned for Medford.

In a letter obtained by NBC5 News, the Governor writes to the Northwest Regional Director of the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

She said that while she respects the Coquille Tribe, and knows the tribe would use the resources prudently, the casino wouldn’t be in the best interests of Oregonians.  Additionally, she said, “State support for even a single, modest, additional casino is likely to lead to significant efforts to expand gaming across Oregon, to the detriment of the public welfare.”
