Grants Pass High School student hit, killed

UPDATE (3/10/16, 1:59 p.m.)- The victim has been identified as Malachi Batty. A candlelight vigil will be held Friday, March 10 at 6:30 p.m. at the north end zone steps near the Grants Pass High School football field.

UPDATE (3/10/16, 1:19 p.m.)- Christopher Faibish, 21, has been arrested on charges related to a fatal crash Friday morning.

Faibish is accused of hitting and killing a Grants Pass High School student just before 7 a.m. Friday. The student was on the sidewalk near Redwood Ave. and Wineteer Lane when police say Faibish crossed traffic and hit him.

Faibish is facing charges of criminally negligent homicide and unlawful possession of a controlled substance- heroin.

Grants Pass, Ore.- A Grants Pass High School student was hit by a vehicle Friday morning and later died from his injuries, NBC5 News has confirmed.

Grants Pass High School students and their families were notified of the death Friday and the school district began implementing plans to help students deal with the traumatic event.

Grants Pass Department of Public Safety is investigating the incident.
