Medford, Ore.–  Jackson County is preparing for what could be a “deluge” of applications for growing marijuana in the county next week.  The application process begins Monday, January 4th.

To handle the anticipated long line, the office will have one employee who’s sole job will be to handle applications.

Jackson County Planning Director Kelly Madding says her department technically has 21 days to process all of the applications and hand them over to the OLCC, but she expects the process to take about 30 days.

She stresses the OLCC will be flexible when it comes to the time frame and the amount of applicants.

“There is really no rush,” she explains.  “The OLCC has informed everyone at their last meeting that they are issuing unlimited licenses.”

Even though she expects an overwhelming amount of land use compatibility applications in Jackson County, Madding says the OLCC expects only about 2,000 for the entire state.

After having the application approved, a license from the OLCC will cost between $3,000 and $5,000.
