Lithia water fountains out for maintenance

Ashland, Ore. —  If you’ve walked through Ashland Plaza lately, you might have noticed that the Lithia water fountains have been removed.

The spouts and bowls were taken out of the fountain earlier this month. Ashland public works said the brickwork at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival required them to shut off the water. In the meantime, the city is refurbishing the fountain.

“Lithia water can stain the fountain pretty bad. So we’re going to have porcelain recoated. They’re a porcelain coating. The internal plumbing needs to be redone and also, we’re going to polish the granite while we’re at it,” Mike Morrison said, Ashland Public Works.

Ashland Public Works hopes to have the fountains back up and running by the end of December.
