17-Year-Old Carries Gun on Campus

Medford Police say it could have been a lot worse around 3:00 in the afternoon on Tuesday, when a student at North Medford High School carried a loaded 38-caliber revolver in the waistband of his pants.

According to police, several students notified school administrators. The young man who had the gun was removed within 10 minutes.

Police arrested the 17-year-old student and charged him with stealing a loaded 38-caliber revolver from an unlocked car parked on South View Terrace, then bringing it on campus.

“We were prepared to go into the highest level of lockdown. fortunately we were able to deal with it quickly. Many ppl had no idea at all,” said Ron Beick, North Medford High’s Principal.

A freshman also weighed in, “It’s kinda scary..anyone can come in,” said Casiana Lopez.

“They caught the person right away. What if they hadn’t caught him right away. Who knows what could have happened” said parent, Tina Lopez.

The student has not been identified because he’s a minor.

Police said he was not brandishing the gun or pointing it other students.

The student is in juvenile hall.
