Boles Fire suspect makes first court appearance

Weed, Calif. — The man charged with starting that devastating fire in Weed, California makes his first court appearance. This, as a family tells us there loved one died while evacuating the blaze.

The family says 85-year-old Meredith Neill fell and broke her femur while rushing to leave her home. Her family took her to the hospital where she had surgery but died the next day due to complications from the procedure.

One of Neill’s four sons says she was a woman with a big heart, a piano player, and a volunteer in the community.

She loved her family, she raised a good family, she lived a good life and she’s in a better place now, said Greg Neill.

The man arrested in connection with starting the fire, Ronald Marshall was arraigned today.

The Siskiyou County District Attorney’s Office says Marshall was appointed a public defender. His bail was set 2.5 million dollars.

Marshall was originally charged with several counts of arson. He’ll be back in court for a preliminary hearing next week.
