27-year-old Jeremy Ray Rasmussen is behind bars tonight after police say he led them on a high speed chase through the Rogue Valley.
It all began around 5:30 A.M. Monday morning when police received a call about a suspicious car driving on properties. When police arrived on the scene Rasmussen had already fled. Left behind was his license plate, from a vehicle registered in Texas.
Around 9:30 A.M. a caller reported a driver slumped over his steering wheel off exit 40 on Interstate 5, but when officers arrived, he was no longer there.
It was later in the morning around 10 A.M. when Oregon State Police located the vehicle in Medford and attempted to make a traffic stop. Rasmussen fled.
Medford officers had set up spike strips off Avion Dr and Airport Rd. It’s then that Rasmussen veered his car off the road hitting two trees. His tires were stuck in mud as he attempted to flee yet again.
A Jackson Country Sheriff’s Deputy shot off two rounds blowing out the drivers back tire. He was tazed and taken to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries. Rasmussen is now in the Jackson County Jail for violating his parole and resisting arrest.
Rasmussen is currently on parole for attempted sex abuse and eluding an officer. He was only released last week from jail for violating his parole. He is a registered sex offender dating back to 2004. He has multiple convictions here in Oregon, and faces a list of new charges.
