Mt. Ashland partially runs on solar power

Mt. Ashland, Ore. — Mt. Ashland is now solar powered for the upcoming winter season. On Friday, a ribbon cutting ceremony was held for the 85 panels installed on the roof of the rental shop.

They’ll eliminate 12% of the ski resort’s power bill, saving them between $4,000 and $8,000 per year.

“It’s important for us to be looking for savings, but also to, you know the other part is to be environmental leaders, we really do want to move ourselves away from fossil fuels, and into more renewable energy sources,” General Manager Hiram Towle said.

The total cost of the project was $117,000. Thanks to donors and Pacific Power’s Blue Sky program, Mt. Ashland only paid $20,000 for the panels.
