Man charged in random beating pleads guilty

eddie ramirezMedford, Ore. — A 19-year-old accused of brutally beating a man he’d never met, pleaded guilty to a charge of third degree assault Monday.

Eddie Ramirez is accused of randomly assaulting Ron Graham on June 27, 2015 while he tended to his plants in Union Park. In court Monday morning, a judge sentenced Ramirez to 30 days in jail, and 3 years probation.

The victim says the process has been stressful, and he’s glad it’s over.

“I’m really kind of happy that things are settled in a sense,” Ron Graham told NBC5 after the court proceeding, “and kind of happy about how the judge came down on the case, it was actually kind of unexpected.”

Eddie’s co-defendant, Eric Ramirez did not receive any jail time. He agreed to a plea deal last fall where he received 3 years probation and a $200 fine. The Ramirez’s are also ordered to pay over $1,000 in restitution.
