Marijuana election results in Jackson County

1008-po3Jackson County, Ore. — Two years after legalizing marijuana, virtually every Rogue Valley resident is being asked to decide it’s future locally tonight.

At this time, the Jackson County cities that are prohibiting marijuana in some way include Shady Cove, Jacksonville, Eagle Point, and Central Point.

Medford is the only city not prohibiting marijuana retailers.

Clay Bearnson, Medford City Councilor and Co-owner of Oregon Farmacy, says marijuana is a safer product when coming from a dispensary.

On the other hand, Ruth Moncus, a Medford City Council Candidate, says she is concerned for the family atmosphere of Medford.

“I think I will be excited to see that the majority of Medford citizens realize the financial benefits of having recreational retail sales in their community,” Bearnson said.

“We really have to be diligent in educating our kids because they’re the ones that are going to be the most affected… our youth,” Moncus said.

Ashland, Talent and Phoenix already allow sales.

Residents there will vote on an additional 3% sales tax on marijuana sales.

Looking outside of Jackson County, Grants Pass is prohibiting marijuana registrants and licensees at this time.

In California, voters are deciding to legalize recreational marijuana.
