New details in Baton Rouge ambush

NC_batonrouge160719_mezznBaton Rouge, La. (NBC News) — We continue to learn more Tuesday night about the attack on police on Sunday in Louisiana.

Investigators in Baton Rouge refuse to rest, and police have released new images and details of what they call an ambush.

The suspect, Gavin Eugene Long, drove to Baton Rouge from his home in Kansas City days before the attack, armed with at least two rifles and a pistol.

He picked a spot just a few blocks from police headquarters to carry out his killing spree.

“His intentions were accurate and they were engaging. They were all aimed at police officers,” Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Louisiana State Police, says.

The gun battle ended when SWAT team members took Long out with a shot from more than 100-yards away.

In the wake of recent ambushes, police around the country are on high alert, now patrolling in pairs.
