Oregon primary fast approaching

ballotsMedford, Ore. — With a little more than a month to go before Oregon’s primary, time is running out for Oregonians to pick a party or get registered all together.

Oregon’s democratic party has a total of 74 delegates, the republican party has a total of 28, and a majority of those delegates will be pledged to a presidential candidate based on the results of the May 17th popular vote.

The Oregon Republican Party has done away with so-called super delegates, so the 28 delegates will be distributed to presidential candidates based on the results of the primary. On the democratic side, 13 super delegates will vote their conscience, while the remaining 61 will be split based on the primary results.

“We have a closed primary,” David Roadman of the Jackson County Democrats says, “so in Oregon you need to register as a democrat in order to vote democratic.”

“If you vote in the primary then you’ve done your part,” Wright Kieran of the Jackson County Republicans says, “and then your vote along with other voters will be represented in our delegation at the national convention.”

The deadline to register or change your party affiliation is April 26th. Click HERE to register.
