Study: Cheaper to house homeless folk than keep them on the streets

320x180_51109B00-SDMFTFla. — A study suggests it’s cheaper to give the homeless homes to live in, than to let the homeless live on the streets.

The Central Florida Commission on Homeless Study indicates the costs of arresting and transporting the homeless, usually for nonviolent offenses such as trespassing or sleeping in parks, as well as the costs for jail stays and medical visits costs about $31,000.

The study says providing housing and a caseworker to each homeless person would only cost around $10,000.
