Cascades East staff injured in Copco bus crash

Klamath Falls, Ore. – Those injured in Sunday’s bus crash in Siskiyou County were family and staff from Cascades East Family Practice in Klamath Falls.

The injuries from Sunday’s crash have resulted in a staff shortage at Cascades East.

“The rest of the Cascade staff are trying to do what they can to accommodate the schedules,” explained Tom Hottman of Sky Lakes Medical Center. “As a matter of fact, planning at this moment exactly what will the schedule look like.”

Hottman adds that it’s still unclear how many of the 22 injured are employed at Cascades East, “I don’t have that number – but everyone was affected a little bit because it’s a close-knit bunch.”

Cascades East is a clinic and residency program operating in partnership with Sky Lakes Medical Center, and O.H.S.U.

Hottman notes that Sky Lakes staff are going what they can to help out their partners, “There is a mechanism to make sure that we plug the holes, because we are always here for the patient.”

Many of the doctors involved in the crash wound up providing initial treatment.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the injuries in the crash ranged from a fractured neck, to minor bruises.

Tom Hottman states that of the passengers on the bus, 5 were admitted to area hospitals, and 11 others were treated and released.
