The cost of illegal fireworks

Medford, Ore. — All fireworks sold at stands around Medford should be legal to use in the state.

Medford Fire-Rescue visited all the city’s surrounding stands to ensure legal fireworks were being sold.

And they’ll be out on special patrols looking for people using illegal fireworks. If caught using fireworks that are banned you face a $250 fine, and a court date. If your fireworks cause a wildfire or property damage, it could cost you much more.

Fire Marshal Greg Kleinberg said, “They could be liable for the resources, they’re absolutely liable for the property damage. It could cost them a lot of money, and it’s just not worth it.”

Any fireworks that leave the ground or explode are illegal in the state. Last year Medford Fire-Rescue responded to 7 fires linked to firework use.
