Erskine fire destroys California neighborhoods

NC_californiawildfire0624_1500x845Lake Isabella, Calif. (NBC News) — A wall of fire is on the move in kern county where the smoky haze can be seen for miles.

Authorities say three firefighters have been injured fighting the Erskine Fire, which tore through several rural communities northeast of Bakersfield, reducing some neighborhoods to ashes.

NBC Bay Area reports the Kern County Fire Department confirmed that two people had died. Details about the deaths and when they occurred were not immediately available.

So far the wildfire has burned 80 homes and 20 other buildings, and it’s now threatening more than one-thousand homes.

Officials have told several thousand people to evacuate.

Scorching temperatures and strong winds are pushing this wildfire through Kern County, where more than 12-square-miles have already been burned.

More than 350 firefighters are battling the fire, but it is zero percent contained.
