Toxic algae detected in Upper Klamath Lake

0624 Upper Klamath LakeKlamath County, Ore. — If you’re looking to take a dip this weekend, you may want to think twice about jumping into Howard Bay in Upper Klamath Lake.

The Oregon Health Authority says water monitoring confirmed toxic blue-green algae is in the bay.

The authority says people should avoid swallowing the water since the toxins are not absorbed through the skin, although a rash may develop.

The advisory will be lifted when there is no longer a concern.
